About me
I have been providing therapy in rural Montana for 30 years. I was Director of Services for a Mental Health Center for 5 years before going into private practice in 1995. Practicing in a rural area is a lot like being a country “doc”, you treat “everything that walks in the door”. This has given me a wide range of experience with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, self-esteem issues, childhood abuse, domestic violence, behavior problems, and life transitions. I have a wholistic, eclectic approach fitting the therapy to the client rather than fitting the client to the therapy.
In addition to a private practice, I also teach college Psychology and Sociology. I love these subjects and love teaching. I bring my knowledge and experience to the therapeutic relationship.
I have a special interest in nutrition and its effect on mental health. To put the research together in one place I authored the book, “Cooking to Cure, A nutritional approach to anxiety and depression”. “Cooking to Cure” focuses on balancing neurochemistry through nutrition and meal preparation. Nutrition, exercise, and positive social relationships have a profound effect on mental health and our ability to deal with stress.
Difficult life transitions can be an opportunity for personal growth. Dealing with change effectively can leave you feeling stronger and more confident. I can help with problem-solving and improving overall mental and physical health through healthy lifestyle changes. I look forward to helping you develop coping skills that will help you through this transition as well as others you will experience in the future.
Life can be overwhelming. Sometimes we need help finding our way. This can be by identifying and implementing options. Sometimes we just need someone to listen to us without judgment. Let’s talk.
