About me
Hello and welcome to BetterHelp! I am so glad you are reaching out for support, and I am hopeful that if we work together, we can help you reach whatever goals you set! It takes a lot of trust to enter into a therapeutic relationship with someone, and I am honored to be a confidential, non-judgmental, and supportive therapist for my clients.
My name is Carissa Cullumber, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Texas. I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work in 2008 from Indianapolis University-Purdue University of Indianapolis. I have been fortunate to work with a wide range of populations and issues over my career as a Clinical Social Worker. I am trained in EMDR and nationally certified in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as most of my career I have been a therapist for children, teens, and adults impacted by sexual abuse, domestic violence, and physical and emotional abuse and neglect. My background has allowed me the unique perspective to provide therapy to both offenders of these abuses as well as the victims, which I feel sets me apart from others that have only worked on one side of these issues. In practice, I want to partner with my clients to identify the goals they are most motivated to work toward, and provide them with the skills and education to meet those goals. I utilize a strengths-based perspective with clients, meaning I believe clients already possess positive qualities and abilities within themselves, we just need to look for them and dust them off sometimes. I am strongly grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing modalities when helping clients make changes in their lives. I have spent a great deal of time working with family dynamics, couples/relationship issues, depression, anxiety/panic attacks, trauma, LGTBQ+ issues, gender dysphoria, attachment and family of origin issues, dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder, major life changes (grief/loss, divorce, etc.), and personality disorders.
Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy spending time working out with my bootcamp buddies, attending a wide range of concerts and musicals, and traveling to places with beautiful hiking trails.
