About me
Hello,
My name is Greg Van Pelt and I have been working with families of adolescents, pre-teens, and young children (birth – 8) for over 15 years. I earned my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and am currently a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. My core approach to treatment is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and some of that trainings which I am most proud of that round out my clinical approach have included Touchpoints, Positive Behavior Support, Early Childhood / Infant Mental Health, and Trauma Informed Care.
My view on how people “get better” is through taking account of the systems they are a part of (family, friends, community, etc.), understanding & strengthening relationships / lines of communication within those systems and ensuring that expectations (both personal and of others) are realistic and fair. My belief is that challenges in any of these areas adds stress to our system which eventually leads difficulties in other areas of life.
**Even though this site is for people 18 and up, my early childhood and infant mental health backgrounds are an important piece of my background because for those parents of young children out there, stress in the relationship between parent & child is a major system stress which impacts other areas of adult life as well as the potential healthy developmental track of the young child.
