Intern
“I was called to this field of healing because of my belief in peoples’ ability to overcome struggles and bloom from them.”
Jen’s strengths lie in working with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions and relationship issues. Jen’s approach is both affirming and empowering for clients which allows them to be authentic and speak their truth. She helps clients work through difficult emotions, examine pervasive and negative thoughts, gain insight into the origins of avoidant techniques or maladaptive coping for “negative” emotions all while instilling insightful and creative adaptability. In this way, clients can expect to learn to be accepting of life situations while making thoughtful and effective decisions for change that are in alignment with their values. Using research-supported theories and interventions including but not limited to narrative therapy, ACT, CBT and mindfulness skills, Jen allows clients to explore their journey and identity and make changes while building on their strengths to meet concrete goals.
Moreover, Jen is committed and equipped to work with those of various cultural backgrounds, as she believes that therapy cannot be separated from the cultural context. Jen incorporates culturally sensitive to understand clients’ backgrounds so that she can integrate their identity into an individualized approach for both individuals and couples. In this way, the collaboration is realistic and applicable in the client’s everyday life.
Jen began this journey into mental health counseling because she was fascinated by therapy and the transformation it could bring to a person’s life, regardless of what struggles they were going through. She believes that part of that change comes from a safe environment where clients are allowed to express themselves freely and experiment in areas they may not have explored before. This allows for authentic emotions to flow and opens the mind to new perspectives we may have not seen previously. It is her hope that through counseling, clients will have gained a deeper understanding of themselves and gain the ability to be creatively adaptive with life situations.
