Hello and welcome to my page! I’m so happy you had the courage to take the first step towards your healing. I’m a huge advocate for mental health as I believe that your mental health influences everything around you. I can’t wait to help you through this journey and to help you reach your therapeutic goals. A little bit about myself. I am Komuni (pronounced Cuh-mon-e) or “K” for short. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Florida. I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and my Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University (FSU). I have almost nine years of experience working with individuals and families in a variety of settings. I have worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor for people struggling with opiate addiction. I have also served as an Admissions Consultant for an acute care psychiatric, substance abuse, or dual diagnosis treatment facility. The bulk of my experience has been within the acute care hospital setting. Within this role, I have assisted individuals and their families with coping with life changing diagnoses, supported families with transitioning their family members out of their home into a nursing home, independent or assisted living facility. I have also helped family members cope with the stress of being in a caregiver role and through grief/ loss of a loved one. Outside of being a social worker, I am a wife and mother to a three year old. I consider myself a foodie. I love cooking, baking and trying different cuisines. I also love all things related to the performing arts. My therapeutic style is client focused, holistic, and warm. I provide a supportive, encouraging, and non-judgmental environment with my client as the driving force in their journey. I use various techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help my clients identify and work through behaviors that may be interfering with their own greatness .
