About me
Hello,
I am a seasoned psychotherapist with a rich cultural background, being multi-racial – African, Indigenous, and Irish American. With over 35 years of experience in the field of human behavior, I have worked with diverse populations and settings ranging from Long Island to New York City.
My educational journey began with a degree in Communication Arts from Hofstra University, specializing in film. However, my passion for documentaries and understanding people led me to pursue a Master of Social Work at Stony Brook University. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with extensive training in alcohol, substance abuse, mental health, and the treatment of dual diagnoses.
Throughout my career, I have worn various hats from being a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) to a CASAC-Master, psychiatric social worker, psychotherapist, and Addictions Specialist. My clientele has been diverse, spanning different age groups, educational backgrounds, professions, and cultural affiliations.
In my practice, I place a strong emphasis on authenticity and attachment in my interactions with clients. I have found that fostering genuine connections helps reduce anxiety and creates a safe space for growth and healing. My therapeutic approach is client-centered and eclectic, drawing from cognitive-behavioral techniques and motivational interviewing to establish and achieve therapy goals.
I have a successful track record in addressing a wide range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, Bipolar disorder, Dissociative disorders, OCD, as well as providing support for couples through couple/marital therapy techniques.
I firmly believe in the power of psychotherapy or talk therapy as a transformative and empowering tool for personal growth and positive change. It is my hope to guide clients through their challenges, help them set and achieve goals, and ultimately create a more fulfilling life.
I invite you to embark on this therapeutic journey with me, where we can work together towards unlocking your full potential and creating meaningful changes in your life.
