The emerging “self-care”, “fill your cup first” way of life can be in direct opposition with your culture’s longstanding pillars of “just work harder” and “just pray harder”. So, first of all, kudos to you for making moves toward adding necessary supports to the strengths that have kept you thus far. I believe that you are an expert in your own life, even if you don’t always use that expertise effectively. I believe it is my job to provide you the time and space to take an honest look at your desired path and the supports to identify the strengths you possess to set you on it. At times, the people closest you may be offering the most loving support that they have to give. But they are just that, too close.
